What happens if dark reaction does not happen in the plants?
CBSE, JEE, NEET, NDA
No dark reaction takes place ,because only in the presence of sunlight ,carbon dioxide and water photosynthesis takes place at night plants breathe oxygen .
Plants deprived of light will lose their color and die. The shoots exposed to “limited/no” sunlight had a yellow/white color due to the fact that photosynthesis could not occur. The lack of sunlight stunted photosynthesis and therefore the sprouts were not able to produce the chlorophyll needed to create a green color.
Nevertheless, even the dark reactions will cease if the plants are deprived of light for too long because they rely on the products of the light reactions.
The dark reaction occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast, where they utilize the products of the light reaction. Plants capture the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through stomata and proceed to the Calvin cycle.
They provide the energy that enable the plant to combine carbon dioxide with other compounds to make sugar. This activity occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast and does not require light. It is therefore known as the dark reaction of photosynthesis.
Plants and animals would most likely perish. Photosynthesis emits considerable oxygen into the air; the atmosphere contains very little oxygen.
The plant will die within a few hours as it cannot produce food without sunlight.
When a plant doesn't get enough water, the tips and edges of leaves dry out and turn brown. Ultimately, entire leaves will brown and die.
A Day in the Life of a Plant
This means that the plant produces more glucose than it uses during respiration. At night, or in the absence of light, photosynthesis in plants stops, and respiration is the dominant process. The plant uses energy from the glucose it produced for growth and other metabolic processes.
Dark reaction of photosynthesis does not require light. Both the light and dark reactions occur in the day. As dark reaction does not require light it doesn't meant it occurs at night it only requires products of light reaction like ATP and NADPH.
Why is it called dark reaction?
The reason why they call it the dark reactions is that they're light independent. They don't require photons. They only require ATP, NADPH, and carbon dioxide.
Definition of dark reaction
: any of a series of chemical reactions in photosynthesis not requiring the presence of light and involving the reduction of carbon dioxide to form carbohydrate especially : calvin cycle.

ANSWER: In a strict sense, plants do not grow faster in the dark; they grow slower. However, plants seem to grow faster in insufficient light due to rapid cell elongation. In other words, they don't grow faster, they simply stretch.
Now, if there's not enough liquid water to absorb, plants will close their stomata in order to prevent more water vapor from escaping. This means that plants also don't take up as much carbon dioxide as they need. Therefore, photosynthetic activity slows down.
The plant is kept in the dark for 24-48 hrs. During this time, photosynthesis is halted due to an absence of light. Therefore production of new starch is also stopped. The stored starch is used up by the plant for other activities like respiration, transportation etc.
The dark stage of photosynthesis is an intricate process where NADPH and ATP are used to produce carbohydrate molecules (or sugars).
The reason these two processes occur at the same time is that photorespiration uses oxygen while giving out carbon dioxide and the dark reaction of photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide while giving out oxygen.
NADPH and ATP drive the second stage, the “dark” reactions (or Calvin cycle, discovered by Melvin Calvin), which do not require light. During this stage glucose is generated using atmospheric carbon dioxide.
Photosynthesis is a process that converts light energy into chemical energy. Basically, photosynthesis is the process that provides fuel to plants and that allows plants and even some photosynthetic algae to survive and grow. If photosynthesis came to a sudden ending, most plants would die within a short span of time.
Green plants are the source of energy for all organisms. If all green plants disappear from the earth, all the herbivores will die due to starvation and so will the carnivores who feed on herbivores. There will be no life left on the earth.
What would happen if plants do not perform photosynthesis in Brainly?
If photosynthesis does not occur in plants then plants cannot synthesize the food. The plants will not produce oxygen and then no animal life will be able to survive due to the absence of oxygen. We will not get oxygen, food, and life on this planet will be extinct.
Dark reaction of photosynthesis does not require light. Both the light and dark reactions occur in the day. As dark reaction does not require light it doesn't meant it occurs at night it only requires products of light reaction like ATP and NADPH.
Photosynthesis is divided broadly into two main steps
Light Reactions: These reactions occur in the presence of sunlight and they are responsible for the generation of energy molecules such as ATP and NADPH. Dark Reactions: These reactions do not need sunlight and occur in its absence.
In the dark reaction, plants use carbon dioxide with ATP and NADPH from the light reactions to produce glucose. Dark reactions occur during the day but since the reaction does not use the light directly hence it is known as the dark reaction. Food is actually synthesized in dark reactions.
Photosynthesis: Photosynthesis is not performed by plants at night. Plants can only undergo photosynthesis at night if they are exposed to the appropriate wavelengths of artificial light. With the help of the chlorophyll pigment, light energy is absorbed.
